What Makes the Grass Always Greener on the Other Side?
You’ve probably heard the saying “The grass is always greener on the other side.” What this means is that people aren’t satisfied with their own situation and think that others have it better.
It doesn’t matter what it is. Perhaps a job, car, stereo, tv, house etc. Someone always has something that you don’t and instead of being happy for them, we often overlook the good things we have and focus on their things instead.
We all know that great looking grass requires fertilizer. So it stands to reason that the proverbial greener grass is getting fertilized. What I mean by this is that whatever you focus your attention on, that is what you are fertilizing. If you spend your time watching home improvement television, you are going to want to improve your home. If all you do is read magazines about fast cars, you are going to want a faster car. What are you focusing your mind on, is it something that you don’t have? A jet-set lifestyle, granite counter tops, a new pool. Wherever you focus your attention is what you are fertilizing.
If you truly want to be happy you have you will need to start to focus on the great things you already have. Don’t worry about if your tile is a little stained, at least you have tile. Enjoy the car you have, because it could be worse, you could be riding the bus. Spend some time giving back to others who don’t have what you do. Focus on sharing, giving, and being generous with your time. If you do, what you have will start to look a whole lot greener.
